Mail scanning in Croatia: what happens to each letter

Mail scanning in Croatia turns a paper letter at your Zagreb address into a file you can read from anywhere. It only happens on the Scan plan. Start stops at a notice.
This page follows one letter from the doormat to your screen, and lists what to ask at each step.
One letter, step by step
A letter arrives. You hear about it. With Scan it is then opened and scanned, and the scan reaches you by email. Start stops at the notice. That notice is the cheapest way to know something arrived.
Ask how the notice reaches you and where it goes, so it does not land in an inbox nobody reads.
Agree a rule for junk mail too. Discard it without a notice, or announce every item. Deciding later costs you a round of messages.

Opening an envelope on your behalf
Scanning means someone opens your mail. Say in your enquiry which senders may be opened and which letters should stay sealed. Ask how access to your mail is limited, and what is kept once a letter is scanned.
Your letters may hold contracts, tax notices and bank mail. Ask whether scans are stored, for how long, and how you delete one. This page cannot promise answers a plan has not given, so ask for them in writing, and keep the answer.
Official letters and registered mail
Letters from Croatian authorities and courts arrive in Croatian. Neither plan promises to sign for registered mail, in Croatian preporučena pošiljka. Ask what happens with official letters before you rely on the address.
Decide who reads such a scan, and tell your accountant.
Forwarding to another country
Neither plan includes forwarding. Forwarding a paper original to another country costs postage or courier fees, and no price for it is set. Ask before you rely on it.
Volume limits
Scan covers up to 30 items a month. Items are counted, not pages, and how many pages one item may have is not set. Give a realistic number of letters in your message.
Count last year's post and add a margin. If you expect a burst, like annual tax letters, say so now and the plan is sized for it.

Common questions
How will I know a letter has arrived?
Ask how notice is sent and to which email. Give your preferred address in your message.
Can every letter be scanned?
Only with the Scan plan, which opens and scans incoming mail up to 30 items a month. Start does not scan. Neither plan promises to sign for registered mail, so ask about official letters first. List the senders you expect in your enquiry.
What if a letter is not in English?
Scans show the letter as it arrived, which in Croatia usually means Croatian. Plan for a translation tool or someone who reads the language.
